The Day of Big Fat Red Hearts

This sign hangs in my house all year long.

I've got some questions for you on this day of love.

And, here are my own answers to those questions.

What are your Valentine's Day plans?

I have always had so much fun with Valentine's Day festivities. Last week, my 5 year old daughter declared that we are going to have a Valentine's Day party. I thought it was a wonderful idea and started making plans. We decided to stick with family for the guests. Well, I guess I decided that part. My house wouldn't pass the clean test of anyone outside of the family. You know how that goes. I make Red Velvet Cake once a year, only for Valentine's Day, so that's ready to go.

This is my famous Red Velvet Cake, surrounded by heart-shaped brownies. I'll deliver the brownies today, along with some cookies and candies, to our Veterinarian's office.

The rest of the menu is going to be only red or pink foods. Red tortilla chips with salsa. Red pasta with tomato sauce. Ham. Red peppers. Red potatoes. Fruit salad with strawberries, cherries, apples. Strawberry jello. Red, red, red. I also have some No Knead Bread rising that I added red food coloring to. Should be interesting.

Who is your Valentine?

Remember our my daughter's Christmas project? We made more draft stoppers for Valentine's Day gifts.

I was lucky to run into my soul-mate 17 years ago. I knew he was my soul mate as soon as I saw him. Like a magnet. Instant. I knew I was in trouble for sure after our first date, which, by the way, we didn't even call a "date." I knew that I had found that someone whom I am destined to love. The ultimate. The pinnacle. The "It." Forever.

Any Valentine's Day advice?

I can't believe it's been so long since I quoted you-know-who. My favorite singer/songwriter/philosopher. Yep, you got it, James Taylor.

Valentine's Day is a perfect day to use some of his words yet again. This time,

"Shower the people you love with love."

Life has shown me that the love we share will come back to us, feeding our souls and warming our hearts. I have always had a visualization of James Taylor's "Shower the People" in my head. My imagined music video. I don't know how old I was when I first heard this song and created this cartoon-like image to accompany it. Maybe 12 years old? So, believe me, this visualization is not earth-shattering. What bounces around in my head when I listen to this song is this. Big, fat, red hearts coming down from the sky on the people below. The people are smiling and dancing as the big, fat, red hearts come down on them. By the way, I'm always one of the people below in this imagined video getting showered with the big, fat, red hearts.

What is your Valentine's Day wish?

That's what I wish for you today, Sweet Friends. That big, fat, red hearts will pour down on you, making you smile and dance, feeding your soul and warming your heart. I'm sending some your way this Valentine's Day.

Happy Valentine's Day!
